SLAVNI LOVAC

Po šumi, širom, bez staze, puta,
Ježurka Ježić povazdan luta.
Lovom se bavi, često ga vide,
s trista kopalja na juriš ide.
I vuk i medo, pa čak i – ovca,
poznaju ježa, slavnoga lovca.
Jastreb ga štuje, vuk mu se sklanja,
zmija ga šarka po svu noć sanja.
Pred njim dan hoda, širi se strava,
njegovim tragom putuje slava.

THE GLORIOUS HUNTER
Throughout the woods, without path and way,
Ježurka Ježić is wandering the whole day.
Often can be seen hunting, it is his business,
he attacks with three hundred spines.
The wolf and the bear, and even the sheep,
know the hedgehog, the glorious hunter.
The hawk respects him, the wolf keeps off his way,
it’s in the striped snake’s bad dreams.
The day walks in front of him, the terror is spreading,
glory travels on his trail.

A DICSŐ VADÁSZ
Sűrű rengetegen át, árkon és bokron,
Jezsurka Jezsics egész nap vándorol.
Gyakran vadászik mindenfele,
Háromszáz tüskéje rettentő fegyvere.
A farkas, a medve, de még a bárány is
A dicső vadászt mind jól ismerik.

A sólyom tiszteli, a farkas is kerüli,

A csíkos kígyó miatta rosszat álmodik.

Telnek a napok, egyre terjed a félelem,

Amint a dicső vadász megy az ösvényen.

 

LIJINO PISMO

Jednoga dana, vidjeli nismo,
Ježić je, kažu, dobio pismo.
Medeno pismo, pričao meca,
stiglo u torbi poštara zeca.
Adresa kratka, slova k'o jaja:
"Za druga Ježa
Na kraju gaja".
U pismu piše:
"Ježurka, brate, sanjam te često i
mislim na te.
Evo ti pišem iz kamenjara guskinim perom.
Divno li šara!
Dođi na ručak u moju logu, požuri samo,
ne žali nogu.
Sa punim loncem i masnim brkom
čekat ću na te, požuri trkom.
Nježno te grli medena lica
i pozdrav šalje lisica, Mica"
Jež se veseli: – Na gozbu, veli,
tu šale nema, hajd da se sprema.
Ježurka Ježić lukavo škilji,
pregleda bodlje i svaku šilji.
- Ako bi usput došlo do boja,
nek bude spremna obrana moja.

LETTER FROM THE FOX

One day, we didn’t see,

Ježić – as they say – received a letter.

Honey-word letter, as the bear was telling,

arrived in the bag of the postman rabbit.

Short addressing, the letters like eggs:

„For my friend Hedgehog,

At the end of the wood”.

In the letter is written:

„Ježurka, brother, I dream often about you and think of you.

I am writing you this from the karst with a goose feather pen.

What a wonderful printout!

Come for lunch to my cottage, hurry up, do not spare your feet.

With full pot and  bold mustache,

I will wait for you, hurry up running.

Kindly hugs you with the honey face

and sends you greetings fox Mica.”

Hedgehog is happy: - For this feast, - he says – there is no joke, let’s prepare for this.

Ježurka Ježić squints smartly,

checks his spines and sharps each one separately.

- If there will be a fight along the way,
I will be ready to defend what is mine.

A RÓKA LEVELE
Történt egy napon, mit senki nem látott,
Jezsics - úgy mondják -  levelet kapott.
A mézes-mázos levelet - a medve mesélte -
a postásnyúl kézbesítette.
A címzés, ákom-bákom betűkkel:
"Sündisznó barátomnak,
Az erdő szélire."
A levélben ez állt:
Jezsurka bátyám, veled álmodok, rád gondolok.
A sziklákközt írok neked, lúdtollal rovom
e csodás sorokat.
Jöjj hozzám ebédre, szedd lábad sebtiben.
Teli fazékból lakmározunk majd,
Siessél ide, nagyon várlak.
Ölel téged mézes csókkal
szerető üdvözlettel: Mica Róka.
A sündisznó nagyon örül,
az ünnepre rögvest készül.
Jezsurka Jezsics nagyot kacsint,
minden tüskét egyenként élesít.
- Ha netán harcra kerülne sor,
Megvédem minden jogos jussom.



 

KOD LIJINE KUĆE

Sunčani krug se u zenit dig'o
kad je Ježurka do lije stig'o.
Pred kućom- logom, kamenog zida,
Ježurka Ježić svoj šešir skida,
klanja se, smješka, kavalir pravi,
biranom frazom lisicu zdravi:
- Dobar dan, lijo, vrlino čista,
klanjam se tebi, sa bodlja trista.
Nek perje pijetla krasi tvoj dom,
kokoš nek sjedi u loncu tvom!
Guskino krilo lepeza tvoja,
a jastuk meki patkica koja.
Živjela vječno u miru, sreći,
nikada lavež ne čula pseći.
I još ti ovo na kraju velim:
ja sam za ručak trbuhom cijelim!
Otpoče ručak čaroban, bajni.
I jež i lija od masti sjajni.
Jelo za jelom samo se niže,
Ježurka često zdravicu diže:
u zdravlje lije i njene kuće,
za pogibiju lovčeva Žuće.
Niže se ručak četverosatni,
zategnu trbuh k'o bubanj ratni.
 

AT THE FOX

The sun circle ascended to the zenith

when Ježurka arrived to the fox.

In front of the house, at the stone wall

Ježurka Ježić takes off his hat,

bows, with smile, and as a true gentleman,

started a greeting phrase for the fox:

- Good day, fox, clear virtue, my respect to you, from my 300 spines.

Should cock feather decorate your home,

should chicken sit in your pot!

Goose wing should be your fan brush

and a duck a soft pillow.

Live forever in peace and happiness,

never hear the dog barking.

And after all this

I am here for lunch with my whole belly.

The magical and delicious lunch started,

Hedghog and fox were shining of fat.

Dish after dish,

Ježurka frequently raises his glass:

For the health of the fox, and his home,

and for the death of hunter’s dog Žućo.

The four hours lunch
tensed the bellies like a war drum.

A RÓKA HÁZÁBAN
A napkorong a zenit alá süllyedt,
midőn Jezsurka a rókához érkezett.
A ház előtt, a kőkerítésnél,
Jezsurka a kalapját leemelé.
Úriemberhez méltón meghajolt,
a rókának köszöntőt mondott.
- Jó napot róka, erények bajnoka,
tied háromszáz tüském hódolata.
Díszítse otthonod kakastoll,
Fazekadban csirke rotyogjon.
Lúdtoll legyezővel hűsöljél,
Kacsatoll párnán pihenjél.
Éljél sokáig békében,
Kutyaugatást ne halljál.
Végül pedig
Itt vagyok, lakomára készülten.
A pompás ízletes ebéd kezdetét vette,
A sün és a róka falánkul ettek.
Telt az idő, ízletes ételekkel és
Jezsurka pohárköszöntőjével:
- Emelem poharam rád, kedves róka,
és minden kutya halálára.
Az ebéd négy órán át tartott,
Degeszre töltődtek a pocakok.
 

NOĆ

Evo i noći, nad šumom cijelom,
nadvi se suton sa modrim velom.
Promakne samo leptiri koji
i vjetar noćnik listove broji.
Utihnu šuma, nestade graje,
mačaka divljih oči se sjaje.
Skitnica svitac svjetiljku pali,
čarobnim sjajem putanju zali.
A sova huknu svoj ratni zov:
- Drž'te se, ptice, počinje lov!
 

NIGHT

The night is here, above the whole forest,

covered by the blue veil of the twilight.

A butterfly passes from time to time

And the night wind is counting the leaves

The forest is silent, no more noise.

The eyes of wildcats shine.

The vagabond glowworm lights the lantern

With magical splendor the path enlights

An owl is howling her war call:

- Hold on birds, the hunt is about to begin.
 

AZ ÉJSZAKA
Az éjszaka közeledik,
Az erdőre sötét fátylat borít.
A fák között éjjeli lepkék repdesnek,
Egy kisbagoly számlálja a faleveleket.
Az erdő csendes és zajtalan,
A vadmacskák szeme zölden villan,
Távoli lámpások fénye felcsillan.
A csedben egy bagoly ezt rikoltja:
- Figyelem madarak, indul a vadász útjára.

 

RASTANAK
Ježić se diže, njuškicu briše.
-Ja moram kući, dosta je više.
Dobro je bilo, na stranu šala,
lisice draga, e, baš ti hvala.
-Moja je kuća čvrsta k'o grad,
prenoći u njoj – Kuda ćeš sad?
Tako ga lija za konak sladi
a jež se brani, šta da se radi:
-Zahvaljujem se pozivu tvom,
al' mi je draži moj skromni dom!
-Ostani kume, lija sve guče,
moli ga, zove, za ruku vuče.
Al' jež tvrdoglav, osta pri svom.
- Draži je meni moj skromni dom!
Šušte i šumom jež mjeri put,
kroz granje mjesec svijetli mu put.
Ide jež, gunđa, dok zvijezde sjaju:
- Kućico moja, najljepši raju!
 

LEAVING
The hedgehog stands up, and wipes his mouth.

- I must go home, I cannot stay more.

It was very good, without joking, dear fox, thank you so much.

- My house is strong as a fort, and the night is coming.  – Where should you go now?

So the fox sweetly talks

to make him stay in the shelter.

But the hedgehog excuses, and says:

- Thank you for having invited me,

but I prefer my humble house.

- Stay my friend, the fox coos,  asking him, calling, pulling his hand.

But the hedgehog is stubborn, and he insists on going home.

- I prefer to stay in my modest house!

Rustling and whirring the hedgehog is measuring the way
the moon through the branches enlightens his path.
The hedgehog is going, murmuring, above him the stars are shining:

- My little house, the most beautiful paradise.

A TÁVOZÁS
A sündisznó száját törölve haza indulna.
- Mennem kell haza, későre jár az óra.
Drága róka, a sok ízletes ételt,
Hálásan köszönöm tenéked.
- Légy vendégem erős házamban,
Ilyen későn ne menj sehova.
A róka mézes-mázos szavakkal
a sünt marasztalni akarja.
De a sün sehogysem maradna.
- Meghívásod igen kedves nekem,
de ilyenkor otthon már a helyem.
- Maradj nálam, koma, kérleli a róka,
s kezével a sünt maga felé húzza.
De a sün ennek konokul ellenáll,
hiszen rá kedves otthona vár.
- Megyek most szerény lakomba !
A sün hümmögve indul a vadonba.
Felette csilllagok ragyognak,
S ő magában így mormolgat:
- Az én otthonom, az én menyországom.
 

POTJERA

Ostade lija, misli se: – Vraga,
što mu je kuća toliko draga?
Kad ježi tako žudi za njom,
bit' će to, bogme, bogati dom.
Još ima možda od perja pod,
pečene ševe krase mu svod.
Ta kuća, vjeruj, obiljem sja.
Poći ću, kradom da vidim ja.
 

PURSUIT

And the fox stayed and thought:  - Gosh, why is his house so precious to him?

Since the hedgehog wishes his home so desperately, it must be a rich house.

It has feathers on the floor, maybe,

fried larks decorate the ceiling.

That house, I believe glitters with abundance.

I will go secretly, I want to see it.
 

TITKOS NYOMOZÁS
A róka magában ezt gondolta:
Vajon mért oly értékes a sün háza?
Tán a házban rejlő kincsek,
melyek oly nagyon értékesek ?
A padlón értékes tollszőnyeg ?
A plafonról sültgalambok függnek?
Kétségtelen gazdag ház lehet,
Jobb, ha titokban odamegyek.
 

VUK

Požuri lija, nečujna sjena,
paperje meko noga je njena.
Dok juri tako uz grobni muk,
pred njom na stazi, stvori se vuk.
-Grrr, kuda žuriš, kaži-der lovcu;
možda si negdje pronašla ovcu?
- Idem da doznam – lija sve duva -
zašto jež kuću toliko čuva.
-Eh, kuća, trice! – veli vuk zao.
-Ta ja bih svoju za jagnje dao!
Poći ću s tobom jer volim šalu,
hoću da vidim ježa – budalu!
 

THE WOLF

The fox hurries up, a noiseless shadow,

with very soft footsteps.

While is running with cemetery silence,

in front of him, on the trail appears the wolf.

- Grrrr,  tell the hunter where are you running;

maybe you found a lamb somewhere?

- I am going to find out – says the fox  breathless – why the hedgehog treasure so much his house.

- Oh, the house, trash! - says the mean wolf.

- I would exchange mine for a lamb!

I will go with you, because I love fun,

I want to see the hedgehog – the fool!

A FARKAS
Rohan a róka, mögötte sötét árnyéka.
Könnyed léptekkel oson a síri csendben.
Árkon-bokron suhan nesztelen,
Mikor a farkas ugrik elé hirtelen.
 - Grrr, hova a nagy rohanás, te róka,
tán egy bárányt találtál volna?
- Megyek megnézem - lihegi a róka,
mily kincseket rejt a sün háza.
- Mit ér egy ház! - szól a farkas mogorván -
Az én házamat egy bárányért eladnám.
Jövök veled, a tréfát szeretem,
Az ostoba sünt én is megnézem
 

MEDO

Dok jure dalje brzo k'o strijela,
srete ih medo, prijatelj pčela.
- Sumnjiva žurba – medo ih gleda -
možda ste našli jezero meda?
- Ne, nego maštu golica moju,
zašto jež voli kućicu svoju.
-Kućica, glupost! Moje mi njuške,
svoju bih dao za gnjile kruške.
Za satić meda dat' ću je svakom!
govori medo na jelo lakom.
-Poći ću s vama, jer volim šalu,
hoću da vidim ježa – budalu!

THE BEAR

While they were running faster than the arrow,

they met the bear, the friend of bees.

-  Such suspicious hurry -  the bear watches them – maybe you have found the lake of honey ?

-  No, but we cannot imagine, why the hedgehog loves his house so much.

-  The house.. what a stupidity! I swear on my nose, I would give mine for a rotten pear.

For a handful of honey I would give it to anyone, says the voracious bear.

I will go with you, because I love fun,

I want to see the hedgehog – the fool!

A MEDVE
Futtottak a nyílnál is sebesebben,
mikor megjelent előttük a mézes-medve.
- Hova a nagy sietség - kérdi a medve -
- talán egy tavat találtatok, mézzel telve?
- Dehogy. Csak meg szeretnénk tudni,
hogy a sün a házát mért is szereti.
- A ház... Micsoda butaság ! Az én házam egy körtéért eladnám.
Elcserélném bárkivel egy bödön mézre,
dörmögte mohón a barnamedve.
Jövök veletek, a tréfát szeretem,
Az ostoba sünt én is megnézem

 

DIVLJA SVINJA

Sve troje jure k'o divlja rijeka,
odjednom- evo- kaljuga neka.
Divlja se svinja u njojzi banja,
pospano škilji i – jelo sanja.
- Hr-nji, junaci, sumnjiva trka,
negdje se, valjda, bogovski krka?!
- Poskoči svinja, uz mnogo graje,
a vuk joj na to odgovor daje:
-Tražimo razlog, blatnjava zvijezdo,
zašto jež voli rođeno gnijezdo!
-Rođeno gnijezdo! Tako mi sala,
za pola ručka ja bih ga dala!
Poći ću s vama jer volim šalu,
hoću da vidim ježa- budalu.

THE BOAR

 All the three of them were running like a wild river, suddenly there is a mud.

The boar baths in it,

sleepy looking and dreaming of food.

- Hey, friends, suspicious running,  you found somewhere probably to eat like God?

The pig jumps with much noise, and the  wolf gives an answer:

- We are searching the reason, you dirty star, why the hedgehog loves his born-nest!

Born-nest! I  would give it for a half lunch, I swear on my fat!

I will go with you, because I love fun,

I want to see the hedgehog – the fool!

A VADDISZNÓ
Akár egy vad folyó rohantak hárman ,
midőn egy vaddisznót láttak a sárban.
Álmosan hentergett, éhesen fetrengett.
- Hova a nagy rohanás - kérdi a malac -
tán bőséges étkezőhely akadt?
A disznó zajosan csörtetett,
a farkas a kérdésre így felelt:
- Keressük az okát, sáros barátom, hogy
mért kedves a sünnek a saját otthona.
- Saját otthona !  Az én kis fészkemért
bárcsak fél ebédet kaphatnék.
Jövök veletek, a tréfát szeretem,
Az ostoba sünt én is megnézem.
 

PRED JEŽEVOM KUĆICOM
Svi jure složno ka cilju svom,
kuda god prođu – prasak i lom!
Pristigli ježa, glede: on stade
kraj neke stare bukove klade.
Pod kladom rupa, tamna i gluha,
prostirka u njoj od lišća suha.
Tu Ježić uđe, pliva u sreći,
šušti i pipa gdje li će leći.
Namjesti krevet, od pedlja duži,
zijevnu, pa leže i noge pruži.
Sav blažen, sretan, niže bez broja:
- Kućico draga, slobodo moja!
Palačo divna, drvenog svoda,
kolijevko meka, lisnatog poda,
uvijek ću vjeran ostati tebi,
nizašto ja te mijenjao ne bi'!
U tebi živim bez brige, straha
i branit ću te do zadnjega daha !
 

IN FRONT OF THE HEDGEHOG’S HOUSE

They all were running together  for achieving their target,

wherever they passed – crash and breaking!

They catch up the hedgehog, and saw:  he stopped close to a beech tree.

Under the beech log a hole, which was dark and deaf, and mattress was made of dry leaves.

As Ježić enters this place, he is swimming in happiness, creaks and touches  where he will lay down.

He makes the bed longer than one inch, he is yawning/gaping, and stretches out his legs.

Blessed and in a happy mood repeats endlessly:

- Sweet home, my freedom!

Wonderful palace, wooden ceiling,  my soft cradle, leaf-covered floor,

I will always remain loyal to you,

I never would exchange you for anything.

In you  I live without worry and fear, I will protect you until my last breath!

A SÜNDISZNÓ HÁZÁNÁL
Együtt rohantak, hogy céljukba érjenek,
árkon-bokron keresztül csörtettek.
A sündisznó háza - mint látták - egy bükkfa alatt volt.
Sötét, levelekkel borított kis rejtekben
Jezsics boldogan élt kedves fészkében.
Pihent gondosan elsimított fekhelyén.
Ágyát gondosan előkészítette,
Testét kényelembe helyezte.
Boldogságban úszva halkan suttogta:
- Édes otthonom, az én szabadságom!
Csodás palotám, famennyezettel,
puha bölcsővel, avar-fészekkel.
Mindig hűséggel védelek,
Semmire el nem cseréllek.
Benned mindig békét lelek,
Utolsó erőmmel is megvédelek.



 

TRI GALAMDŽIJE

 Medvjed i svinja i s njima vuja
grmnuše gromko prava oluja:
- Budalo ježu, bodljivi soju,
zar tako cijeniš straćaru svoju?!
Koliba tvoja prava je baba,
krov ti je truo, prostirka slaba.
Štenara to je, tijesna i gluha,
sigurno u njoj imaš i buha!
Kućicu takvu, hvališo mali,
za ručak dobar svakom bi dali!
Rekoše tako, njih troje, ljuti,
dok mudra lija po strani šuti.

THREE  NOISE MAKERS

 The bear and the pig and the wolf with them  shouted loudly like a real storm:

- Fool hedgehog, with your spines, you appreciate your shanty so much?

Your cottage is real old lady,

the roof is rotten/broken, the bedding is poor.

This is a doghole, narrow  and deaf, and certainly you also have fleas!

Such cottage, little braggart, we all could give it for a good lunch.

Three of them were telling this angrily, while the wise fox beside them was silent.

A HÁROM ZAJONGÓ
A medve, a disznó és a farkas is,
Túlordították a mennydörgést is:
- Tüskés sündisznó, te bolond, miért olyan értékes a házad ?
Ez csak egy ócska tákolmány,
A tetőn az eső befolyik már,
Ágyad pedig vacak. Ócska kacat.
Ebben a szűkös kis kutyaólban,
Bizonyára terjeng a sok-sok bolha.
Ne kérkedj ezzel a szörnyű oduval,
többet érnél egy ízletes vacsival.
S míg hárman így zajongtak,
A róka végig csendes maradt.

JEŽEV ODGOVOR
Diže se Ježić , oči mu sjaje,
gostima čudnim odgovor daje:
- Ma kakav bio moj rodni prag,
on mi je ipak mio i drag.
Prost je i skroman, ali je moj,
tu sam slobodan i gazda svoj.
Vrijedan sam, radim bavim se lovom i mirno živim pod svojim krovom.
To samo hulje, nosi ih vrag,
za ručak daju svoj rodni prag!
Zbog toga samo, lude vas troje,
čestite kuće nemate svoje.
Živite, čujem, od skitnje, pljačke
i svršit ćete – naopačke!
To sluša lija, pa sudi zdravo:
-Sad vidim i ja, jež ima pravo!
To reče, klisnu jednom ćuviku,
a ono troje digoše viku:
- Jež nema pravo, nastranu šala:
a i ti, lijo, baš si, – budala!
 

THE RESPONSE OF THE HEDGEHOG

Ježić gets up, his eyes are shining,

and gives a strange answer to the guests:

- But this was my birth place, and it

is still dear for me.

Although it is modest, but it's mine, here I am free and  I am its owner.

I am hardworking, I hunt and I live peacefully under my roof.

It is only a villain, gone with the devil, who would give his birth place for a lunch.

Because of this, you crazy three, you do not have your own house

You live, as I hear, from strolling, robbery  and you will finish – upside down!

The fox listens to this, and gave a healthy judgment:

- Now I also see that the hedgehog has right!

She said so and ran away towards a hill,

the remaining three started to shout:

- The hedgehog is not right, this isn't a joke:  but you, fox, just you are the fool!

A SÜNDISZNÓ VÁLASZA
A sün kijött házából, csillogó szemekkel,
és eképp beszélt a hivatlan vendégekhez:
- Ebben a kunyhóban születtem,
Ezért oly kedves ez nekem.
Szerény, egyszerű lakhelyem,
békés, biztos menedékem.
Dolgozom és vadászom nappal,
este hajlékom véd és takar.
Örödögfajzat az, ki házát nem becsüli,
és azt bármikor egy vacsira cseréli.
Nektek sosem lesz otthonotok,
míg ily bután gondolkodtok.
Ha csavarogásból, rablásból éltek,
hamar a föld alá kerülhettek !
A róka figyelmesen hallgatta,
majd végül ezt mondta:
- A sün igazat szólt.
És ezzel elloholt.
Az ott maradt állatok, tovább kiáltoztak:
A sündisznó ostoba ! És a róka is buta !

 

KRAJ

Šta dalje bješe, kakav je kraj?
Pričat ću i to, potanko, znaj.
Krvnika vuka, jadna mu majka
umlati brzo seljačka hajka.
Trapavog medu, oh, kuku, lele,
do same smrti izbole pčele
I divlja svinja pade k'o kruška,
smače je zimus lovačka puška.
Po šumi danas, bez staze, puta
Ježurka Ježić lovi i luta.
Vještak i majstor u poslu svom,
radi i čuva rođeni dom.


 

THE END

Is there anything more, how is the end?

The story teaches it, particularly, know it.

The butcher wolf, poor his mother,

was quickly beaten to death by peasant chase. 

The slothful/sluggish  bear, oh, kuku, lele,

       (kuku, lele - used when crying after
        someone who had died)

bees stinged to death.

And the boar would fell down like a pear,

from a hunting gun in winter.

Throughout the woods nowadays, without path and way,

Ježurka Ježić is hunting and wandering.

He is expert and master in his work,
he works and protects his birth home.

BEFEJEZÉS
Akarod tudni a mese végét?
Íme halld meg, hogy mi történt.
A gonosz farkas, ó egek ura,
Elhullott egy vadászatban.
Szegény cammogós medvét
a méhek halálra csípték.
A vaddisznó elhullott mint egy körte,
vadász puskája terítette földre.
Sűrű rengetegen át, árkon és bokron,
Jezsurka Jezsics még ma is vándorol.
Munkájának nagy mestere,
Otthonának éber őre.
