VALLEY OF KINGS (LUXOR)

We spent a whole day in Valley of Kings, which is situated on the West Bank of Luxor.
The first thing we met was the Memnon Colossi, the gigantic statues. The whole area is so
huge that a car is needed to get to the sites. The Pharaonic tombs and temples are
magnificent, and only few escaped the the vandalism of the grave robbers.

Memnon Colossi in Valley of Kings.

The statues are 3300 years old, 18 m high statues, built by Amenhotep III.

Hatshepsut Temple.
The inner parts were built in the rock.
A sad memory:  In 1997 a large group of tourists were killed here.

Tomb of Tuthmosis III.
(1479-1425 BC)

He was one of the first who built his tomb here.
The narrow gangway has wonderful painted walls.

Real horror !!!!!

In the tomb of Tuthmosis III, in a hidden niche a dead man was lying (who knows when did he die...)

The Valley of Kings is situated among the limestone mountains of the West Bank of Luxor.

This Great Place was the hidden burial place of many pharaohs. Up to now about 62 tombs were excavated.

Tomb of Ramses III.

The gangway is richly decorated with hieroglyphs.

Not only the walls, but even the ceiling is painted.

Medinat Habu is a magnificent temple complex.
Look this amazing ceiling painting .

Medinat Habu was not only a complex of temples, but also a centre of economical life....

Ancient art....

In an Islamic country even the traffic signs are dedicated to God.

ALLAH AKBAR means,

the greatest God.
