SAKKARA, MEMPHIS

Back to Cairo, Sakkara, Memphis, Going home

We spent the last two days in South-West Cairo, in Hotel Europe (Shari AL-Haram).
From the hotel we had a panorama at the Pyramids. On the last day we visited to Sakkara
and Memphis. Our flight back to Hungary was a real adventure, as our flight was cancelled
because of the war in Iraq. So we got home through Prague.

A small mosque on the road.

View at the Pyramids, from the roof terrace of Hotel Europe.

Road Al-Haram alway has a high traffic.

Roofs are used for keeping odds and ends...

Hotel Europe was very comfortable and cheap, with a nice swimming-pool on the roof.

Sakkara.
The 4600 years old Pyramid Zoser.
This is the oldest pyramid in Egypt, built around 2650 BC, discovered in 1924.

The photo was again a MUST.... Memphis.
Big statue of Ramses II.

His right hand is quite big...

Another view from upstairs...

Alabaster Sphinx from the New Kingdom.
(c.a. 3300 years old)
On the airport road...
Northern Cemetery or 'City of the Dead'.
A world of old tombs and mosques.
A place where poor families live even today.

A funny scenario...
