LUXOR

Luxor is one of the greatest attractions of Egypt. The greatest of the highlights is definitely
Karnak temple, where we nearly 'lost' among the 144 gigantic columns. The "Sound and Light
Show" at night was mythical and mysterious. Luxor Temple is another wonder of ancient
times.

Avenue of Sphinxes.

The 3 km long path ran from Luxor Temple to Karnak temple.
Only a short part remained, other parts lie under the town.
More sections will be excavated soon.

In the background the 24 m high walls of Luxor Temple and the pink granite pilon.

                                           KARNAK TEMPLE

Temples of Karnak.
(AMON Temple)

No writing, no photo can give you the impression of this immense and magnificent place.

Standing in the Great Hypostyle Hall of Ramses II   we felt our littleness.

The 144 columns are tremendously high, the area is 6000 sq meter.

The columns are richly decorated (sunken relieves).

The area is large enough for both
St Peter (Rome) and St Paul (London).
The relieves were colored.

The colors are quite bright after 3300 year.

KARNAK AT NIGHT: SOUND AN LIGHT SHOW

             BACK

Some parts of the temple are still covered.
Paintings are astonishing !
KARNAK Temple again.
We returned there in the night, for the
'Sound and light show'.
Can you see Jupter above the column?
The Sound and Light Show was a wonderful presentation of the pharaohs, their life, their gods.... and the highest and greatest creator, the  God forever: AMON
