ASWAN

The Nile and is magically blue in Aswan as it flows down from the dams, and around the
giant granite boulders and palm-studded islands.   Ancient temples, tombs, desert... and
the great Nubian Museum, felucca trip, boat trip - we did all these in two days.

Aswan. Corniche  Nile.
The river is very clean and blue. The school girls are pretty dressed.

We went on a felucca ride with the Nubian Captain Mustafa.

This is another excursion, where we are traveling by a motor boat. This photo was taken from the Kitchener Island which is a fabulous  botanical garden.

Another picture taken on Kitchener Island.

Aswan Dam.

Another boat excursion. Our Nubian Captain is
8 years old, called Rajeeb.
Philae Temple on an island. It is easy to observe the typical temple structure: high walls - columns - high walls, sanctuary.

In 1960 when the High Dam was built this temple was moved (piece by piece) 20 m higher on Agilkia Island.
This was a UNESCO project (1972-1980).

Elephantine Island in Aswan.
The name comes from the huge gray granite rocks, surrounding the island.
Ancient graffiti: There are hieroglyphs on the rocks.

A boy in a nutshell boat on river Nile.

Birds having 'siesta' on the granite rocks.
This place was called the First Cataract, where Nile is flowing through cascades, and the water is whirling,
turning the boats round and round, with dangerous rocks under the water.
